The situation is stable, but from next week the effect of the lockdown relaxed last Monday will gradually diminish, while at the same time the growing number of mutations will show consequences, analyzed Health Minister Rudolf Anschober (Greens).
“Starting next week, we have to assume that this consequential effect will gradually decrease and that the strongly increasing proportion of mutations with a higher risk of infection will lead to a gradual increase in the number of infections in the coming weeks.” This is also indicated by the now slowly rising reproduction number, which Anschober said was 1.02 today.
“We are trying to counteract this with a unique testing density,” the minister stressed. Regarding the vaccination campaign, Anschober said, “At the end of this week, 150,000 people will have received total immunization (both partial vaccinations, note), 400,000 vaccinations will have already been carried out.”
No further opening steps expected
Tomorrow, the federal government will meet with experts one more time to assess the current situation in the CoV pandemic. After discussions with the opposition parties, a decision on the further course of action will then be taken together with the provincial governors.
Due to the spread of more infectious variants and a fairly stable 7-day incidence of around 100 cases, the government does not currently expect any further opening steps.
It remains open whether there will be a perspective for those sectors that are currently still closed, i.e. mainly the catering and hotel industry. That will depend on the assessments of the experts and the talks with political representatives, the government said.
